Edna Ruth Mitchem, a loving mother and grandmother, caring nurse, gifted story-teller and friend-maker extraordinaire, passed on 02/14/2017 at 4:13am, at the age of 77, in her home, "her happy place", with all her ducks in a row.
No one has embraced life as fully as Edna did or attracted as many different characters, from all walks of life. She was as feisty as she was tender, as outspoken as she was tactful, as full of wonder as she was full of wisdom. Her loyalty was unshakable, her laughter contagious and her love for her family everlasting.
Edna enjoyed her Maxwell House coffee in the mornings in her pretty blue cup. She loved her movie and dinner dates with sister who doesn't want to be named (Betty Jo Brennan). Edna always looked forward to her Logan High reunions and her class of 57/58 committee meetings at Bob Evans. Watching her birds fly about and her beloved cat Mrs. Clarke and dog Girl play, always put a smile on her face. One of her favorite annual events was the Mitchem/Gillum family reunions. Updating her many beloved facebook friends was a high priority for Edna as she loved and enjoyed them all so much.
Edna could be a formidable foe or a powerful ally, with her on your side you could never lose. She had a mischievous and sometimes dark sense of humor, that almost never wavered during her two and a half year battle with Myelofibrosis. She "fought it off like a Mitchem". Edna always wanted to live to be 100 and be on the Smucker's jar, plus 25 more. While sadly she did not make it to 125, she would be the first to admit that she lived long and loved hard.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Donald Ray Mitchem, her son Donald Ray Mitchem Jr., grandchildren; Christopher Thomas Goldie, Micheal Shaun Christopher Lee Goldie, Leslie Dawn Goldie, great-grandchildren; Blake Shannon Edwards and Baleigh Malia Mitchem, her parents; Floyd and Anna Farley and her brother Lloyd "Bud" Farley.
Edna is survived by her four children Toni Fleming, Dawn "Bunky" Blevins, Micheal Lloyd "Littleman" Mitchem and Wesley Todd "Fe" Mitchem. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren; Stacey Suzanne Blake, Donald Gene Goldie, Shaun Micheal Mitchem, Tiffany Renee Sweet, Kari Anne Goodman, Micheal Lloyd Mitchem II, Stephen Ray Mitchem, Nicholas Todd Mitchem, David Todd Mitchem, Ashley Dawn Mitchem, Stephen Marc Fleming II, Gary Donald Blevins, Ty Farley Mitchem, Toni Ruth Mitchem, Kameron Lee Mitchem and Anna Dawn Blevins. As well as 19 great grandchildren; Micheal Todd Edwards, Kennedy Nicole Mitchem, Makayla Lucille Lyndzy, Shaun Micheal Mitchem Jr., Jalyn Renee Lyndzy, Serenidy Angel-Jade Mitchem, Kavan Micheal Mitchem, Ethyn Aaron Clark, Cordell Tariq McCorkle, Addysen Liberty Sweet, Aiden Riley Mitchem, Hayden Alba Nickole Mitchem, Alyssa Rae Sweet, Matthew Thomas Goldie, Mackenzie Jade Mitchem, Allie PeggyAnn Mitchem, Braxton Don Mitchem, Addison Riley Mitchem and Jaxtyn Cole Goodman. There are many more family and friends not listed, but if you knew Edna then you already knew how she felt about you. She gave her flowers while she was here.
There will be no services, per her request. She only wanted for everyone to always remember to "Make memories... Be kind...and Smile."
Edna Mitchem rocked this world coming into it and she has done so again on February 14th, when she passed.
She would want all of you to know she loved you and appreciated all your calls, cards and prayers.
It was her wishes to have no services. In lieu of flowers, please just go out to dinner with your loved ones and have a toast to her and remember to always,
Be Kind , Make Memories and Smile .... -Stacey Blake
